The various programs that BBI offers have been designed to meet the
following Goals and Objectives;
To develop, build and improve:
KNOWLEDGE & UNDERSTANDING
MOTIVATION
SELF-ESTEEM
READING SKILLS
COMPUTER SKILLS
READING SKILLS
Jonathan Kozol reports in his book ILLITERATE AMERICA
that forty-two percent of all African-American and Hispanic children
17 years of age can not read beyond the sixth grade level and that
over 27 million Americans are illiterate.
Often times, the lack of reading
done by students is related to the material that they are reading,
especially when it comes to culturally related materials. Why would
a student want to read material that is culturally negative and exclusive,
as opposed to something that is culturally positive and inclusive?
With this in mind, our programs are geared towards improving reading
skills by adjusting content, as well as by using technology to allow
a student who is having problems reading, to improve at his/her own
pace.
Highlights:
Various types of material that are culturally oriented from the different
subject areas
The READING COMPREHENSION Testing will also help students to improve
his/her reading skills by encouraging the students to read the material
